Conveyor belts help transfer goods to long distances without using manpower. These belts are attached to rollers on either side that aid in the movement of the belt endlessly. Conveyor belts are made of materials that are durable and strong to withstand heavy objects. For example, conveyor belts made of nylon are used to move commodities that are non-corrosive, granular and powdery. Transfer of goods is usually done at mild room temperatures. The joints are the most important parts of the conveyor belts as they facilitate smooth transfers. Also the length of the belt that is to be put into use will highly depend on the quality of the joints fixed.      

Mechanical joints

These joints use fasteners that come in varied sizes and thickness to fit in all kinds of belts. It facilitates speed and smooth transfer of goods. These fasteners are highly affordable and can be installed easily. Mechanical joints are used in cases where the belts have to be joined and separated frequently. However the durability of these belts is less compared to the other kinds of belt joints.

Vulcanized splicing

Conveyor belt vulcanizing is the most commonly used method to link belt joints. Vulcanization is a process which enables smooth splicing of conveyor belts at minimal risks with respect to tearing or damage of belt ends. It is of two types, namely the hot and the cold vulcanization techniques. In the case of a cold vulcanization technique, the ends of the belts that are to be joined are heated at high temperatures and its strength is increased using a vulcanization press under high pressure conditions. During a cold vulcanization process, chemical compounds that have high abilities in bonding belts are used. Vulcanized conveyor belts are highly durable and are considered to be more efficient and reliable than mechanical fasteners.
