Conveyor belt vulcanizing when done by trained and experienced technician can yield desired results. For high quality splice certain factors have to be taken into consideration. The success of conveyor belt vulcanizing process depends on the following factors:
1.Experts skilled and trained in vulcanizing procedure with excellent knowledge of solvents, fill materials, bonding materials and other cover needed to perform vulcanized splice.
2.The vulcanized process can be successful if it is done under specific temperature and pressure. The equipment used and dwell time are also crucial for completing the vulcanizing successfully.
3.Not all types of belts allow vulcanization. Belts that are dirty or worn out unevenly are not a good candidate for vulcanization as it will not cure evenly resulting in weaker splice.
Keeping these three factors in mind vulcanizing of conveyor belts has to be suggested. For a 600mm belt width it could rough take around 6 to 11 hours based on the working conditions. The wider the belt the long it takes. Vulcanisation takes time as the crew have to bring in specialized equipment and tools to the site. The operations at the site may be shut down anywhere between a day or more.
Vulcanizing splices are used in the following conditions:
•The belt has to be clean and free of contaminants like oil, sand and other finer material.
•Choose the right adhesive that is compatible with the belt material
•The belt should be new or free from excessive damage
•The procedure has to be administered only by certified and qualified vulcanizer
•The work place environment should have the right temperature and moisture level
•The belt area needing splice should be accessible with plenty of space to move around.
•For a professionally done vulcanized splice sufficient downtime is required.
