Types of Conveyor belt vulcanising

Conveyor belts positioned at an industry facilitate easy transport of goods between various processes. Conveyor belts are mostly made up of three materials, namely nylon, steel and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Due to long hours of operation, these belts and their covers undergo damages that affect the entire system and repairing these mechanical faults using simple means can bring in a halt to the production of a factory.

Conveyor belt vulcanising is the best solution to all issues of these kinds as it is both cost-effective and time saving. Thorough knowledge and advanced tools are the two most important requisites that ease all procedures in vulcanisation. The belts joined using vulcanisation processes are highly durable compared to those fused using mechanical joints. Vulcanised splices are the best of all the belt joints available due to its highest strengths. Splicing of belts using vulcanisation techniques can also become disadvantageous at times, as belts fused using these methods deteriorate from the inside and damages become visible only when the condition worsens and blows out of proportions making it impossible to prevent discrepancies beforehand. There are two basic processes in vulcanisation.

Cold vulcanisation

To begin with, the ends of the belt are spliced using binding agents that induce chemical reactions which in turn fuse the belts together. Vulcanised patches are placed firmly on the regions damaged using appropriate adhesives. Scores and dents on conveyor belts are repaired using these processes.

Hot vulcanisation

Factors like heat and pressure play vital roles in these cases. Initially, the areas damaged on the conveyor belts are located and cautiously removed. The ends of the belt are subjected to high pressure and temperatures and are adhered using a pressing machine. New patches of belts are securely attached using bonding agents like cement. Tears and holes on the conveyor belts are treated using these techniques.
